Remember artists like Salvador Dalí, René Magritte and Joan Miró? They were some of the great masters of Surrealism, one of the most influential cultural movements that ever existed.

But that was a long time ago. And the sad truth is that those names don't mean as much to the young generations as they once did. Every once in a while, though, you can see a clear echo of the old masters. One of those echo's is named Rob Gonsalves, a Canadian artist who is heavily inspired by a Dalí, a Magritte, a Miró.

He is known as a magical realist. Gonsalves' paintings contain two or more very realistic elements, whose coming together creates a totally new, magical world. You know that what you see is impossible. And yet, the longer you stare at it, the more possible it becomes.

In the end, it doesn't matter what is actually real. It's about what you imagine could be real.
