This Is One Island You Won’t Want To Visit (15 Photos)
Poveglia, a small island in the Venetian Lagoon, has an extremely troubling history. Poveglia once served as a safe place for people running from barbarians, but as time moved forward, it transformed into a home for people sick with the plague in the 16th century. It became a refuge for mentally ill people in the 20th century. More than 160,000 people were alleged disposed of on Poveglia when the plague ravaged Europe. It’s rumored that their souls still haunt the island.
